Bridge over former Nottingham Canal, Trowell
This bridge, which has apparently recently been renewed or rebuilt, carries the A609 Nottingham Road across the derelict Nottingham Canal on the eastern edge of Trowell. On the far side of the bridge, a filled in section of the canal begins. Just before I reached this point, a woman passed me on horseback; I presume she dismounted, and the horse ducked, to pass beneath the bridge.

The Nottingham Canal Nature Reserve
This was once the route of the Nottingham Canal which ran from the coal fields at Langley Mill to the Trent at Nottingham. Since 1977, the Broxtowe Borough Council has owned and maintained the upstream sections from Wollaton to Langley Mill as a nature reserve and walking trail. This section of the trail runs along the backs of the houses on Hill Rise in Trowell, to the right. The trees on the left hide a steep hill.
