An April morning in Aspley Lane
Aspley Lane leads to the western suburbs of Aspley, Broxtowe, Strelley and Bilborough. New leaves, but not the overcast sky, gave a springlike feel.

Speedo and Collins
The nearer buildings are part of the Ascot Works of the Speedo swimwear company. The long building behind is no longer in the textile business but instead houses a large Cash and Carry business

An overcast morning in Ascot Road
The demolition of the former Ascot Works in spring 2013 opened up a view across the railway. The nearer trees are on the site of Radford Colliery, which closed in the early 1960s. Image] (November 2009) and Image] (September 2011) give an idea of what has gone. Collins' Cash and Carry, on the right, housed in a former cardboard-box factory, remains.

Ascot Road, Bobbers Mill
The Collins building is on the left and the Speedo-Ellesse-Berghaus works on the right. The Wheatsheaf is on the other side of the junction of Aspley Lane, Nuthall Road and Bobbers Mill Bridge.

Bobbers Mill: Ascot Road as it was
This fairly dull 2009 picture has acquired some small historical value since Ascot Works - on the right - was demolished in May 2013. Collins Cash & Carry occupies the former factory building on the left. Alan Murray-Rust's Image] shows Ascot Works from Bobbers Mill Bridge; my Image] and Image] show the site after demolition. The Wheatsheaf, straight ahead on the corner of Nuthall Road and Aspley Lane, has closed since this photograph was taken.

Bobbers Mill: Collins Cash & Carry, Ascot Road
The demolition of the former Ascot Works, on the left of Ascot Road, has opened up a view south across the allotments and Ainsley Estate to the Players Bonded Warehouse, about a mile away on Wollaton Road. I last took a picture from more or less this spot in September 2011: Image

Bobbers Mill: Ascot Road
Collins' Cash & Carry occupies a former factory; Ascot Works, the Speedo factory, is on the left, between road and railway. For a view from Ascot Road, see Image The plume of steam from Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station, eight miles away, shows above the buildings in the centre of the picture.

Bobbers Mill: changes in Ascot Road
A housing estate is being built on the site of the former Ascot Works. On the left Collins Cash & Carry occupies an earlier factory building. For an idea of how things were until relatively recently, see Image] (2009).

Bobbers Mill: Ascot Works demolished
The factory building latterly occupied by Speedo has been demolished, opening up a view of Collins Cash & Carry on Ascot Road. That building was once a cardboard-box factory. The Nottingham-Mansfield-Worksop railway line is in the foreground of this view from Bobbers Mill Bridge.
