A walk through Harrison's Plantation (5)
Raleigh Pond, at the east end of the Plantation was a former claypit. It now supports breeding mallard and Canada geese and is used as a fishing lake although the fishing platforms are in bad repair, attacked by vandals from the look of them. Previous image Image, next image Image

Originally a country lane, this is still a pedestrian route through from Wollaton to Bilborough. This end also provides vehicle access to a factory.

Within Harrison's Plantation, and fed, not as many people think, by the overflow from Martins Pond, but by an underground spring. Thought originally to be a clay pit.

Syd on Raleigh Pond
This photograph shows Syd, a Red Eared Slider (terrapin) that has lived in Raleigh Pond for almost 9 years with his mate. The hot weather has resulted in many sightings and will continue to do so now word is getting round.
