Radford: We're all proud of Nottingham
So reads the poster on the city-bound Faraday Road bus stop at the bottom of Ilkeston Road (and Nottinghamians should certainly be proud of their bus service, Nottingham City Transport). In the background is a small square of typical City of Nottingham council houses of the kind built either side of the Second World War.

Council houses on Ilkeston Road
A small infill group of just 11 houses in the distinctive architectural style of Nottingham's council houses from the late 1930s. There is a bench mark http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3853172 on the side wall of the side gateway of the nearest house.

The White Horse, Ilkeston Road, Nottingham
This tiled pub is now surrounded by student accommodation blocks. The one seen here on the right is called Sillitoe Court. At the time that Alan Sillitoe wrote Saturday Night Sunday Morning it would have been surrounded by the Raleigh factory.

The White Horse, Radford
Traditional pub on the corner of Ilkeston Road and Faraday Road. The pub was used in the filming of Alan Sillitoe's 'Saturday Night and Sunday Morning' - the story of a disaffected Nottingham factory worker.

Student accommodation on Ilkeston Road
Post-industrial Radford and Lenton (once home to Player's cigarettes and Raleigh cycles) are now a land of student flats. The ones on the left are part of the Manor Villages estate. In the distance is the junction with Faraday Road and St Peter's Street, beyond which the A609 becomes Wollaton Road and climbs to cross the Nottingham-Mansfield railway where, until 1964, Radford Station stood.

Nottingham - NG7 (Lenton)
The White Horse pub referred to in the Alan Sillitoe book & film "Saturday Night & Sunday Morning" is now a cafe, albeit that the exterior has been preserved (or protected?). This is the view from opposite it looking up Ilkeston Road (A609) towards the city centre.
