Houses beside the Nottingham Canal at Lenton
These modern houses are on Petersham Mews which replaced traditional terraced houses on Petersham Street. They have an enviable location overlooking the canal.

Nottingham Canal: rivets and reflections
Bridge 13 carries the Leen Valley line built by the Midland Railway in 1848, now the Robin Hood Line. The line to Trowell and the Erewash Valley route diverges at Radford, a mile or so to the north.

The Nottingham Beeston Canal at Lenton
Today's Nottingham Beeston Canal is simply a bypass for an unnavigable stretch of the River Trent. It was built as part of a much longer route - now derelict - that provided Nottingham with its first direct link to the coalfields to the north.

Leen Valley Railway bridge
Part of the Midland Railway empire. The Leen Valley branch was the first line to be built up the Leen Valley to tap the coalfields between Nottingham and Mansfield. It was late joined by a branch of the Great Northern Railway and the Great Central. Here it crosses the Nottingham Canal on a plate girder bridge. At this point the line also carries traffic from Nottingham to Chesterfield and Sheffield via the Erewash Valley line.

Lenton North Junction
As part of the Nottingham re-signalling project in 2013, the west curve of the Lenton triangle was reduced from double to single track. A busy route when coal was still being transported from the Nottinghamshire coalfield, there is now no regular traffic. As part of the simplification of the junction, a new crossover http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3837159 has been installed north of Abbey Bridge (from which this photo was taken) to allow southbound movements to access the curve.
