Shady Lane, seen from . . .
. . . is it Church Street or Easthorpe? This ancient way marks the boundary between the centre of Southwell and Easthorpe, its eastern suburb. The name Easthorpe apples equally to street and district.

Stone staircase
There is a crossing of footpaths here - the second one is at right angles, between the stile and the steps. Both form important links across the town in surprising rural conditions. Southwell has an extensive network of what clearly used to be field paths which have survived in the urban development.
