Once upon a time there was a ferry here.
From Holme to North Muskham. Today it's a drive via Newark or Dunham Bridge to get from one village to the other.

The Muskham Ferry at North Muskham
Sadly, there's no longer a ferry so it's a long way round via Newark or Dunham Bridge. In much older times the Trent was wider here, possibly wide enough to ford between islands.

The Muskham Ferry
A pub in North Muskham on the west side of the river. As its name implies there used to be a ferry here, crossing to Holme. Before that, and before the river changed its course, the two villages were on the same side of the river. The pub looked tempting, but we have a rendezvous in Newark and it is starting to get dark.
