Backfilling the bridge
Now that the abutments and central pier for the bridge have been built, the cutting under the bridge has to be backfilled before the bridge deck is erected. This is a safety precaution required to prevent workers falling from the bridge to the bottom of the cutting.

Backfilling the bridge
Now that the abutments and central pier for the bridge have been built, the cutting under the bridge has to be backfilled before the bridge deck is erected. This is a safety precaution required to prevent workers falling from the bridge to the bottom of the cutting. The bridge piers are surrounded with plywood, partly as a means of protecting them from physical damage from machinery, but equally importantly to prevent them getting stained by the soil.

Deep ruts
These would form a challenge to any normal 4x4, but are child's play to this type of vehicle.

Greengate, Syerston
This is the only road into the village of Syerston, so has to be kept open throughout the works. The yellow-suited gent has to spend all day operating the traffic lights controlling construction plant crossing the road. Modern Health and Safety regulations mean that he has to be provided with canteen, drying room and toilet, all of which are contained in the grey cabin. Beyond can be seen one of the abutments for the bridge over the new A46.

Heavy Plant Crossing
The need for a controlled crossing is fairly clear when this sort of vehicle is involved.
