Royal Centre tram stop
Looking west up Wollaton Street from Theatre Square early on Good Friday, when only a Sunday bus and tram service was operating. The dull brown building on the right, on the corner of Goldsmith Street, is on the site of the Gaumont Cinema (originally the Hippodrome Theatre).

At Royal Centre tram stop
Passengers getting out of a Hucknall to Toton Lane tram at the Royal Centre stop next to the Theatre Royal. The building in the background, on the site of the Gaumont Cinema, is being renovated as student accommodation. The tram is named for George Green, the Sneinton-born self-taught mathematical genius. Nottingham Theatre Royal
The grand facade of the theatre, designed by Charles Phipps, is now part of the much larger Royal Centre. Two trams stand at the Royal Centre stop at the junction of Wollaton Street (ahead) and Goldsmith Street. The centre of the city was more or less deserted on a Sunday morning.
