Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem Inn
A strong, but by no means the only contender for the oldest public house in Britain. It's definitely unique and atmospheric and it certainly pulls in the crowds but I guess we will never have a definitive answer to the big question. If you have a moment, please check out this photo of a derelict pub, barely 30 miles to the north in Derbyshire: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1014272

Castle Road, Nottingham
Beneath Nottingham Castle is this inn, reputed to be the oldest in England.
When I was very young my grandparents, who lived in Linby, told me that if I went to Nottingham I could also go on a trip to Jerusalem. It was a long time before I knew what they were talking about, but they told me eventually.
Children are welcome here until 7pm.
