Mansfield Road: birthplace of 'the father of Italian football'
This row dates from the middle of the 19th century, when Nottingham expanded northwards from its mediaeval core. Nottingham Civic Society's green plaque reads: HERBERT KILPIN The father of Italian football and the founder of Milan Foot-ball and Cricket Club (AC MILAN) was born here 24th January 1870 There are information boards about Kilpin on the Huntingdon Street bus shelter. (Nottingham has another Italian football connection: the black-and-white-striped shirts of Juventus Turin are modelled on those sported by Notts County, the world's oldest professional league club.)

Mansfield Road: the birthplace of the co-founder of AC Milan
Nottingham Civic Society's green plaque reads: HERBERT KILPIN The father of Italian football and the founder of Milan Foot-ball and Cricket Club (AC MILAN) was born here 24th January 1870 The information boards on the Huntingdon Street bus shelter explain that Kilpin was the son of a butcher and moved to Italy to work in the textile industry. There he became the first Englishman to play football abroad. He was the driving force behind the foundation of AC Milan and responsible for its black-and-red-striped shirts. "Kilpin is a hero at the San Siro [the Milan stadium] and regarded by many as the father of Italian football. He is the 'Lord of Milan'. He was born in Nottingham". (Nottingham has another Italian football connection: the black-and-white-striped shirts of Juventus Turin are modelled on those sported by Notts County, the world's oldest professional league club.)

Looking more like a launderettette, this business has a larger frontage at the other end, on Mansfield Road. It is adorned with a sign which reads, somewhat mysteriously, "INTERNET HERE".
