This row dates from the middle of the 19th century, when Nottingham expanded northwards from its mediaeval core. Nottingham Civic Society's green plaque reads: HERBERT KILPIN The father of Italian football and the founder of Milan Foot-ball and Cricket Club (AC MILAN) was born here 24th January 1870 There are information boards about Kilpin on the Huntingdon Street bus shelter. (Nottingham has another Italian football connection: the black-and-white-striped shirts of Juventus Turin are modelled on those sported by Notts County, the world's oldest professional league club.)
