The entry to Langar
The western approach along Cropwell Road. The buildings to the right are Bottom House Farm with a fine group of buildings from the 18th/early 19th centuries (and including some earlier structure) which as a group are Listed Grade II.

Telephone box and pillar box at Langar
Situated just outside the Unicorn's Head public house. The kiosk is Listed Grade II, like a great many of these kiosks, but unlike many it still retains a working phone. The pillar box is unusual for a small village in being a large size (type A), but is in fact a replacement for a neighbouring Victorian wall box, now out of use but carefully maintained http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2255669, http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2255677. The box has ref no. NG13 51, Langar Post Office.

Deep water? Not at the moment
Langar village pond was created in 2012 in part of the car park of the Unicorn's Head pub, on the site of the traditional village pond. Unlike many other parts of Britain, the East Midlands had well below average rainfall during the second half of 2013 and early 2014, with the result that the pond was virtually empty on the occasion of my visit. The Deep water warning and No swimming notice were rather superfluous. The Langar Village Pond Trust has been working to alleviate the problem, including using the roofs of the Unicorn's Head pub to increase rainwater catchment. (Thank you to the Trust's chairman for this information.)

Victorian wall box, Langar
This is now out of service, having been replaced by a modern pillar box http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2255659 , but retains its information sheet and is in generally good order. It was probably replaced due to having a narrow posting slot.

Two fine survivals
Attached to the end wall of the Unicorn's Head public house are an early style AA village sign, and a nice VR wall box. Earlier views show that the AA sign used to be position on the right hand gable wall.

The value of taking all sorts of photographs
I took this shot simply because I liked the shapes of the gables, with their traditional brickwork, rising sunlit against the dark sky. Only after I got home did I notice the date 1717 built into the brickwork. This is the western end of the Unicorn's Head at Langar, which is Listed Grade II
