The Gates of Nottingham (16)
"Wheeler Gate. This was once the main road from the Market Square leading towards Trent Bridge. Through traffic is now excluded. Nottingham has some 15 streets incorporating the Norse-derived 'Gate', meaning a thoroughfare, not a barrier." Next in series Image

Pearl Assurance House, Friar Lane, Nottingham
A slab-and-podium office block built in 1960-62 to the designs of Evans, Cartwright & Woollatt. Compared to its near neighbour Image], the age difference appears greater than four years. Pearl no longer appears to be here, possibly nobody else is either given the sign ("Looking for high quality offices? Look no further!").

Originally a town house of the mid 18th century, remodelled in 1868 http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6109234 when the courtyard was developed for small businesses, and retail facilities added to the ground floor. Listed Grade II.

18 Wheeler Gate, Nottingham
The sole pre-Victorian interloper in the street, although the shopfront was remodelled by Robert Evans, c1868. The brick upper storeys, containing a canted bay and Diocletian window, are mid C18th. Grade II listed.
