Former bank building, Carlton Street
The bank originally included the projecting part in white painted stucco, now separate premises, together with the similar building to the rear. The bank entrance in ashlar was a rebuilding of c.1900. The bank was converted to a bar-restaurant in the late 20th century. Listed Grade II.

Swine Green
As John points out at
Image, the plaque on the Cape bar commemorates Swine Green, where "as far back as 1408 and possibly earlier, the local swineherd would collect the swine of the town each morning and drive them out to their feeding ground at the Coppice and other areas. In the evening they were brought back to Swine Green and some were also kept there for the night" http://www.pastscape.org.uk/hob.aspx?hob_id=317655 . Any comparison with current night-time denizens who frequent the local bars is coincidental. On the right is Pelham Street, with a former Lloyd's Bank on the extreme right http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1271309&searchtype=mapsearch .

Good Friday morning in Carlton Street
The city centre was more or less empty at 8.30 on Good Friday morning. This is the view towards Pelham Street (on the right) and Victoria Street. One of Nottingham's green plaques (on the building ahead, just above the telephone box) explains that this was once Swine Green, and that it was mentioned in Byron's first piece of verse in 1798.

See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6109979 . The shopfront of c.1880 survives largely intact. The green entrance leads to Cobden Chambers http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6109984 , a typical Nottingham city courtyard with 19th century business units and factory.
