Tramway House
This unlikely name derives from the fact that it is where a tramroad from the nearby gypsum mine to a plaster mill at Thrumpton crossed the road.

This is the main link south from Nottingham to the M1. Widening to dual carriageway has been authorised, and the volume of traffic seen in this view is an indication of why.

A453 widening near Thrumpton
Passing to the east of Thrumpton, the A453 is being converted to a dual carriageway between Clifton and the M1 at junction 24. When this picture was taken, one carriageway was in use for two way traffic while the other was under construction.
