George Hawks Memorial, Windmill Park
George Hawks (1801-1863) http://isee.gateshead.gov.uk/detail.php?type=related&kv=2864&t=objects was the first Mayor of Gateshead in 1836 and a leading partner in the Gateshead Iron Works, Hawks, Crawshay and Sons, a long-standing local firm notable for casting the iron work for the building of the High Level Bridge. He was a popular industrialist and adopted a paternalistic and caring attitude to his employees. The memorial was unveiled in 1865.

Walker Terrace, Gateshead
This terrace, and its neighbour, Regent Terrace were built in the 1850's as houses for the professional classes. This terrace consisted of very grand five bay town houses. Many are now offices. It's right in the town centre and overlooks the Metro Interchange.

Weather Vane, Windmill Hills Park
'Wind Vane' is an art work by Richard Woods installed in 2001 providing a memory of the many windmills that once stood on the hilltop above the Tyne where they were well situated to catch the wind http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/yourpaintings/paintings/the-tyne-from-windmill-hills-gateshead-37149 The cardinal points of the compass are shown as words cut-out in the metal plates of the base.
