A large gym, part of the chain operated by The Gym Group, located on Benton Road.
As part of the government's response to the outbreak of COVID-19 in spring 2020 most hospitality and retail businesses, including gyms, had to close as part of the effort to stop the spread of the disease, hence the dark windows and empty car park in this photo.

Socially distanced queuing space, Sainsbury's, Heaton
Cones have been deployed in the supermarket car park to reserve space for customers queuing waiting to access the large Sainsbury's Supermarket in the High Heaton part of Newcastle.
The COVID-19 infectious disease pandemic that affected the UK in the spring of 2020 meant that retailers were implementing several new (and hopefully temporary) procedures in an attempt to mitigate the risk of catching the disease for both shop workers and shoppers. These measures included limiting the number of people allowed in the store at any time and setting aside space in the car park to allow people to queue to get in to the shop in a way that complied with recommendations for people from different households to remain at least 2 metres apart.

Shops, Benton Road, Newcastle upon Tyne
Looking across Benton Road towards a pair of shops on the junction with Cornel Road. The hairdresser is open for the first time since late March thanks to an easing of restrictions imposed by the government which had been in place until the end of the previous day as part of its response to the outbreak of COVID-19 which struck the country. In the period between Image and this photo the modern bookmaker's signage has been removed from the other shop unit to reveal that of a much older business beneath.
