Narrowgate, Alnwick
Uncharacteristically for Northumberland there are a couple of brick interlopers here. The large house on the end is the early-C19th General Lambert's House. Grade II* listed. At the time of the photo it was for sale: "in need of total refurbishment, but would make excellent apartments, hotel or a large town house (or two)".

The dirty bottles
In the early 1800s, a landlord of Ye Olde Cross http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1558964 was setting out some bottles in the window when he was struck down by some sinister and fatal ilness. The bottles have remained untouched in the window ever since

Wall and Tower, Narrowgate, Alnwick
This is the west wall of a 19th century covered riding school, with stable to the north of it, which forms the east side of Narrowgate. The two storey obtuse angled tower, which stands on the corner of Narrowgate and Bailiffgate, has a depressed ogee headed doorway from the street and merlons at roof level. The wall and tower, along with Alnwick Castle, are Grade I Listed.
