Cumberland Arms, Byker
One of the best pubs in Newcastle and with a fantastic view over the Ouseburn valley toward the Tyne. In the Winter the pub does a snuggle pack of a blanket and hot water bottle for those who want to sit outside and enjoy the view, or have a smoke

Graffiti on Leighton Street near junction with Foundry Lane
The building is Fearon's Rolls-Royce and Bentley Garage, specialising in wedding hire. The earliest reference to Foundry Lane was in 1815 when a locomotive was built there for the Lambton Waggonway http://sine.ncl.ac.uk/view_structure_information.asp?struct_id=1747 The name of the lane refers to an iron foundry established by Robert Morrison in 1853. An engine works specialising in small marine engines for the local market and steam hammers for export was also established but was closed by 1875.

Open fire, Cumberland Arms, Byker
Just the sort of fire designed for sitting round with a pint or a hot toddie on a cold day. This pub is also licensed for sword dancing and the Newcastle Kingsmen practice here weekly as well as dance here pretty often doing the traditional Northumbrian Rapper sword dance. A number of them were in the pub when this photo was taken, having a pint before dancing later!

Trackway and Slipway
This was one of the busiest sites on the lower Ouseburn in the 1890s. Loading and unloading of heavy goods on horse drawn wagons. The smooth granite trackway ensured the horse had a gentle climb up the slipway on to Lime Street.
