The building is Fearon's Rolls-Royce and Bentley Garage, specialising in wedding hire. The earliest reference to Foundry Lane was in 1815 when a locomotive was built there for the Lambton Waggonway http://sine.ncl.ac.uk/view_structure_information.asp?struct_id=1747 The name of the lane refers to an iron foundry established by Robert Morrison in 1853. An engine works specialising in small marine engines for the local market and steam hammers for export was also established but was closed by 1875.
