Linnels Bridge
This ancient bridge over the Devil's Water on the B6306 is a grade II listed structure. Completely inadequate for modern traffic, not only with severe width and weight restrictions but also length restrictions dictated by the tight bends at both ends of the bridge. It appears that the first bridge on the site was built in 1581 but replaced by the present structure in 1698. See Image

Plaque on Linnels Bridge
This plaque is a facsimile of the stone inscription on the ancient Linnels Bridge. It can be roughly translated as: God preserve Wmfoira (?) Errington built this bridge of lime and stone 1581 No idea what Wmfoira means. Errington is a local family name. The date 1581 refers to the original bridge not the present structure dated 1698.
