Q6 locomotive at Tyne Dock locomotive shed, 1967
These were the basic heavy freight locomotive of the north east, introduced by the North Eastern Railway in 1913. They hauled heavy coal and iron ore trains, and were never completely ousted by the arrival of the British Railways standard 9F locomotive. Also of note is the elaborate lattice signal gallery in the distance.

Remnants of Cookson Country
In the late 1980s South Tyneside council had an idea for branding certain areas with a view to attracting tourists. Underfunded and underrealised, the whole fiasco consisted of some dull signs erected on wasteland and grass verges. Moreover the whole debacle was overseen by its subject as she was still alive at the time.
