Central Arcade, Newcastle
This triple-domed building was built in 1837 for Richard Grainger. It was originally a commercial exchange and newsroom and later an art gallery. It was rebuilt in 1906 (to a design by Oswald and Son, of Newcastle) after a fire, at which time the present Central Arcade with its glass barrel-vaulted roof, was formed to cut through from Grey St to Market St with a link to Grainger St. https://www.newcastlegateshead.com/shopping/central-arcade-p364441

19-39 Market Street, NE1
Built c 1837, probably by John Wardle, for Richard Grainger. The central 5-bay pavilion has six giant Ionic fluted columns, with the right hand three being shorter to accommodate the change in ground level along the street. The buildings are Grade II listed http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1355266 . Nos. 19-27 (shown in part on the left) are the return of Image Nos. 29-39 were formerly Bainbridge's department store; it was taken over by John Lewis in 1952, and relocated to Eldon Square in 1976 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bainbridge's . Central Arcade
The Central Arcade lies in the triangle bounded by Grainger Street, Grey Street and Market Street. Rebuilt in 1906 after a fire, the Arcade is decorated with Burmantoft's tiles in shades of yellow, brown and buff, and the floor is decorated with different coloured mosaic tiles.
