Built c 1837, probably by John Wardle, for Richard Grainger. The central 5-bay pavilion has six giant Ionic fluted columns, with the right hand three being shorter to accommodate the change in ground level along the street. The buildings are Grade II listed http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1355266 . Nos. 19-27 (shown in part on the left) are the return of Image Nos. 29-39 were formerly Bainbridge's department store; it was taken over by John Lewis in 1952, and relocated to Eldon Square in 1976 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bainbridge's .
