Wood Green gasometer site redevelopment
This was the site of the Wood Green decommissioned gasometers which is being redeveloped as a vast area of look alike apartment blocks to be known as Clarendon Village N8. The density of the housing gives the area an overburdened feel with blocks of between nine and twelve storeys high over dominating the street. The street itself is now known as Mary Neuner Road, named after a former Mayor of Haringey. Contrast this photo with the one I took seven years ago (TQ 3089 Wood Green gasometer Image) with the gasometers just about extant and light filling the area.

Gas holders, Wood Green
Under a comprehensive development for this area of Wood Green the gas holders would be removed. However, campaigners would like to preserve and re-use the one to the right of the picture as it is of historical significance, although not a listed structure http://www.pmra.co.uk/2010/08/12/the-story-of-gasholder-1/

Gasholders, Wood Green
The future of the gasholders has been the subject of intense debate, as the land they occupy form part of the proposed Haringey Heartlands development. Campaigners have been active in calling for the retention of Gas Holder no. 1.
