Archway Road (2)
Taken from the Hornsey Lane Bridge, looking SE towards Archway tube station (not in this shot). The City of London is on the horizon. This road is the A1, a major route out of London to the North. A speed camera is clearly visible in the central reservation.

Highgate: Archway Bridge
John Nash designed the original Archway bridge, a little way north of the current site, in 1812. The current cast iron bridge which replaced Nash's structure, was designed by Sir Alexander Binnie. Construction commenced in 1897, commemorated by the small grey plaque visible in the centre of the bridge, and the bridge was opened in 1900, carrying Hornsey Lane over the A1 Archway Road. The A1 is a dual carriageway here. Note the red route urban clearway red lines and the bus lanes. A route 134 bus trundles up the hill. The Screen Needs a Clean
The operator edges his way around the cab of his machine after cleaning the windscreen - Good practice in bright sunshine, but a task that seems somewhat precarious. The digger itself is sitting precariously on a mound of rubble not far from the edge of the drop down onto Archway Road, many feet below.
