Weston Rise Estate, Weston Rise
A Greater London Council estate by Howell, Killick, Partridge, and Amis, 1964-69. In plan it is five blocks linked by service towers roughly in a G-shape. All quite knobbly, with protuberances on each facade, and protruding access balconies. Pevsner notes that in the 1980s, the "aggressively brutalist concrete detail was disguised by painting". Still an interesting group, although I've no idea of the quality of accommodation.

Joseph Grimaldi Park, Pentonville
This small London Borough of Islington park is located on the corner of Pentonville Road and Rodney Street between King's Cross and Islington. It contains the grave of Joseph Grimaldi, a famous thespian of his time. Note how the blistering July weather has parched the grass.

Grimaldi's Grave
Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837) was a great actor of his time; according to a plaque by his grave, 'he was adored by all and could fill a theatre anywhere'. It goes on to describe him as a 'great artist and a great man.' The grave is located in a corner of Joseph Grimaldi Park, just north of Pentonville Road, close to where he lived all his life.

King's Cross Area, London, N1
Looking along Pentonville Road (the A501) towards the King's Cross Station area. Penton Rise (the A201) lies behind the photographer. The church-like building is known as Veolia House. Pentonville Chapel (later known as St James' Episcopal Chapel) existed on this site between 1788-1985. Following its demolition in 1985 this Palladian facsimile was built in 1990 as a mixed complex of flats and offices, including premises for Veolia Environmental Services Plc. The extended former burial ground that surrounds it on three sides now serves as a public garden known as The Joseph Grimaldi Garden, after the late-18th century stage clown whose grave can be seen within it.
