Essex Road, Islington
Seen from the Canonbury Road/New North Road junction, Essex Road is ablaze with the colour of flowers. Sadly, despite the borough winning the London in Bloom award for 2009, the council has indicated that it will no longer fund hanging baskets from next year, saving £37,000 per annum.

Greenman Street, Islington
The building seen here, on the south side of Greenman Street, is part of the Peabody Trust's Islington Estate. Peabody housing was the idea of American philanthropist George Peabody who moved to London and set about tackling the poverty he saw there. This block dates from 1865, making it one of the earliest examples; the characteristic architecture may seem rather severe to modern eyes, but this was a vast improvement on the slum accommodation that was occupied by many Victorian Londoners. Today, the Peabody Trust is a charitable institution housing about 50,000 people with estates - of varying vintages - across London.

Network South-East branding, Essex Road station
Network South-East was one of the business sectors of British Rail, and as such ceased to exist when the rail network was privatised in the 1990s. Essex Road, something of a backwater, was still boasting this branding in 2016: this is in the southbound tunnel, opposite the platform. My apologies for the poor quality of the picture: this was taken with a hand-held mobile phone, the only device I had on me at the time (and as flash photography in underground stations is forbidden, it would still have been difficult to get a decent image with a better camera).

Tibby Place, Islington
This small park on Greenman Street (off Essex Road) was once the location of Tibberton Baths - a local swimming pool. Oddly, part of the structure remains as a memorial - although I was unable to find any explanation of this at the site itself. The overall effect is distinctly surreal.
