Old school at 9A Evering Road N16
This interesting building is in rather poor repair and used by J. Black, a nut, bolt and fixings merchant, who uses the address "Grange Hall". A pre-Victorian design, erected in 1837 according to the stone on the pediment, the year Victoria acceded to the throne. Also on the front is a plaque with painted or similarly applied lettering which has not proved durable. What can be read or deduced is "West Hackney National Schools. Built A.D.[...] The Rev. Edward [...] Rector. Enlarged [...] The Rev. Thomas H[...]. Rector." The last is probably Thomas Hugo M.A., who was certainly rector of West Hackney in 1871. This building seems unlisted, which is a shame. A front porch has been removed recently, probably to give more parking space. It really needs a little loving attention.

Former Fire Station, Stoke Newington
This is a former Fire Station at the junction of Brooke Road and Leswin Road. It is now a Community Centre, housing a day nursery. The sound of a church service was apparent as I walked past.
