New River Path entrance
Entrance from Green Lanes to the New River Path. The "New River" is a man-made water course, built in the early 17th Century to bring spring water from Hertfordshire into London. The New River Path is a 27-mile walk, following the river from Hertford to Stoke Newington, then continuing along the former river route to its original finishing point in Islington.

The New River
Seen from Green Lanes as it winds between back gardens and industrial buildings. The New River was constructed in the early 17th century to provide water for London and remains an important part of London's water supply to the present day. It carefully follows the contours of the land and is clearly on a slight embankment here close to Palmers Green.
