The Canonbury Tavern
There has been a pub here since the early 1700s, with this building dating from 1854. It was rescued from dereliction and reopened in 2009. According to the pub website, George Orwell, who lived down the road, wrote parts of "1984" under a tree in the garden here.

Canonbury Park South, London N1
There are a number of handsome houses along here, but few to rival the fine pair of 'semis' just across the road. The attractiveness of the street has much to do with its generous width - try imagining it just two-thirds as wide.
