Samuel Lewis Trust housing scheme, Liverpool Road
Built 1909-1910 to the designs of architects Joseph & Smithem. The first of the Samuel Lewis Trust properties to be completed. Alex Cafe, Islington
Located on Liverpool Road, opposite the junction with Highbury Station Road. A traditional workman's cafe, affectionately known as a greasy spoon, offering hearty meals for the sort of prices that would barely buy a cup of coffee in trendier establishments. Even so, crusty bread, baguettes and jacket potatoes suggest that they have moved with the times.
