This unusual but impressive sculpture stands outside the Liverpool Road entrance to the N1 shopping centre, above a florist's kiosk. It was designed by Wolfgang Buttress and Fiona Heron, inspired by its proximity to The Angel.

Borders is closing down
The Borders bookshop in the N1 shopping centre displays clearance sale posters - the chain is yet another victim of the recession that has hit retailers hard. Sadly, bookshops find it very difficult to compete with on-line competition.

Starbucks, Borders, Motorbikes
It is fashionable nowadays for bookshops to double as coffee shops - in this case, the Islington branch of Borders, in the N1 shopping centre, incorporates a Starbucks (in spite of the fact that there is another Starbucks a few yards away on Islington High Street!). Two motorbikes are parked outside.

Jessops Islington Branch - the end
This poignant note appeared next to the official notice of closure on the drawn shutters of this Upper Street branch of Jessops after the long-established photographic chain had gone into receivership with the immediate and permanent closure of all its shops.
