Clyde Walkway diverted round Milton-Lockhart Farm and Milton House
There is history here! The owners of this estate have not agreed to access for the Walkway beside the river and accordingly the path has been diverted a considerable distance away from the river.

Milton Road - and access to the Milton Lockhart Estate
There is history here! The owners of this estate have not agreed to access for the Clyde Walkway beside the river and accordingly the path has been diverted a considerable distance away from the river. In addition, this estate road used to provide access to the Clyde Walkway from Milton Road. With the development of the estate and residence, this access has now been lost.

Clyde Walkway marker near Milton-Lockhart
The route of the Walkway seems to have been diverted away from the Milton-Lockhart estate here, as OS maps from a few years ago show it following the bank of the Clyde through the estate. It seems that the occupant of the grand new house on the site of the old Milton-Lockhart estate doesn't appreciate walkers passing through, and is claiming the riverside route as part of his curtilage under the access legislation.

A Heart within a Fetterlock
Above the arch, carved into the stone is this symbol which depicts "a heart within a fetterlock", which became part of the Lockhart family coat-of-arms, and is associated with the motto "I open locked hearts".
