Shottskirk School?
This is all that remains of a small settlement beside Kirk O' Shotts church. An 1899 map shows there was a school. The present school, now known as Kirk o' Shotts Primary is about half a mile to the west and opened in August 1912. http://www.salsburghheritagegroup.co.uk/17.html

Kirk o' Shotts
As a prominent landmark midway between Edinburgh and Glasgow this church is a familiar sight to commuters along the M8. This view of it is taken from the other side, looking northwest.

Kirk O'Shotts Church - Side View Near Shotts
The above shot was taken from within the graveyard on the side that faces the M8 Motorway.
In 1457 the parish of Shotts was detached from Bothwell barony and the eastern half was given to Lord Hamilton, who refounded and probably rededicated the Chapel. After the Reformation of 1560, Kirk o’Shotts became a Protestant place of worship. The old church of St Catherine’s must have suffered many changes and required frequent changes since its foundation, but of these there is no account before 1640.

Kirk o' Shotts
The church has been renovated in recent years,both outside and inside. The church is open on the first Sunday afternoon of the month for anyone who wishes to view it.

Covenanter's grave
This is the headstone of William Smith a Covenanter who was killed near here while on his way home from the Battle of Rullion Green in the Pentlands.
