Baling silage
Looking over Muttonhole Road towards the big substation. Grass is being baled prior to wrapping in polythene to make silage. Anaerobic fermentation in the bags turns green grass into nutritious winter fodder. Unlike haymaking you don't need to wait on a handy long lived anticyclone to save the crop, silage's short weather window is ideal in the west of Scotland.
