Curfew Bell and Weathervane, Leadhills
Dated 1770, the curfew bell sits in the centre of the former lead mining village of Leadhills. The bell was used to inform workers of shift changes and is apparently now used to ring in the new year.

The curfew bell, Leadhills
Erected in 1770 in memory of James Stirling, who joined the Scots Mining Company in 1735 and managed the Leadhills mines very successfully, whilst greatly improving the miners' living and working conditions.

Curfew Bell, Leadhills
The Curfew Bell was erected by the Scots Mining Company in 1770 to commemorate mine manager James Stirling in the year of his death. The bell was an integral part of the mining industry in Leadhills. It was rung to inform the miners of shift changes and to summon children to school. It also warned of accidents in the mines or when people were lost in the hills. Today the bell is used only to ring in the New Year.

Snow in Leadhills
The house on the left is called Ashlea, and the narrow street is Ramsay Road, named after the poet Allan Ramsay, who was born in the village in 1686.
