Obelisk Milestone by the B530, Church Street, Ampthill
Carved stone obelisk in parish of Ampthill (Mid Bedfordshire District), on B530, Church Street, next to junction of Bedford Street. Erected privately for the Earl of Upper Ossory; dated 1785.
Inscription reads:-
: TO WOBURN / VII MILES / TO BEDFORD / VIII MILES / TO DUNSTABLE / XII MILES / TO LONDON XLV MILES : : ERECTED BY / THE EARL OF / UPPER OSSORY / A.D. MDCCLXXXV : Attached to the stone are lamp finial, water pump with trough and handle.
