Bedford St Johns (former) Station
Cambridge - Bletchley line, which was closed on 1/1/68, view SW towards Bletchley (left), the connection to Bedford Midland Road being to the right. This station survived as a terminus until on 14/5/84 a replacement station was opened on the loop to Midland Road station and Bletchley trains then terminated there.

Bedford St. Johns railway station, 1981
Opened in 1846 by the London & North Western Railway on the Oxford to Cambridge line, this station closed in 1984 when the Bedford-Bletchley service was rerouted into the main Bedford station via a new St Johns station. View south west.

The site of the old Bedford St. Johns Station
The lamp post in the centre of the picture is the only remaining visible link with earlier pictures of the station, taken from the St. Johns Street bridge. The site is completely overgrown with grass and trees, but the platform edges are still discernable in the undergrowth.

Course of old railway, Bedford
Looking from the London Road bridge at the course of the Bletchley - Cambridge line, and in particular at the site of the original Bedford St. John's station. The railway as a through line closed at the end of 1967 and the station, by then a terminus, in 1984, when it was relocated to its present site.
