At the junction with St Peter's Street.
In the 1950's & 60's the shop that is now "angels and urchins" was Bell's chemist shop, with the family living over the shop. One of them was in the same class as me at Bedford Modern School.

Former St Luke's Church, St Peter's Street, Bedford
The building closed as a church in October 2008. The numbers attending were too few to keep up the large complex. They had a series of talks in September from the various groups who had used the building in its 263 year life.
It has now been sold. (Thanks to John Garside for this information).
I went to a youth club here in the late 1960's.

St Cuthbert's Street and Lurke Street, Bedford
The building on the corner used to house the doctor's surgery of Dr Pollock, who was our family doctor in the 1950's and 60's. His partners in the practice were a husband and wife (I've forgotten their names), and the practice later moved to 12 De Parys Avenue after Dr Pollock retired.
It now houses De-ientes "Smile a while", a dental practice.
