Memorial to Italian immigrants
A fairly new sculpture, unveiled in September 2009, donated by the local Italian community who imported it from Italy. It is a memorial to the many Italians who settled in Bedford after WWII. I have no idea why it is currently fenced off. Described by the artist Professore Giuseppe Martignetti (himself an Italian Immigrant) as 'poetic justice to a town that gave so much to my extended family'. The plaque by the sculpture reads as follows... Kindly donated by Prof. Giuseppe Martignetti. In memory of the Italian immigrants who came to Bedford. For those that left their homes; our respect. For those who took a risk to find something better; our thanks. For those that are no longer with us; we will remember.
