Bletchley Station, exterior
View southward, towards London (and Oxford); ex-LNW London - Rugby - Birmingham and the North WCML, junction for Oxford, Bedford and Cambridge. This was entrance of station, on the Down side before the station was completely rebuilt in 1965 for the WCML electrification. The post-war flyover, connecting with Oxford line - but scarcely used - is visible in the background. Passengers services to Oxford, and Bedford - Cambridge ceased 1/1/68, but were restored Oxford - Bicester on 9/5/87 and may well soon return to Bletchley.

A Down Relief express entering Bletchley Station
View SSE, towards London; ex-London & North Western West Coast Main Line. On the left, behind the prominent water-column, is the viaduct - recently built and never really used - between the Bedford/Cambridge and Oxford lines; on the right the new signalling centre [?]. The express is from Euston to Liverpool Lime St., headed by a BR Britannia Class 7 4-6-2 No. 70014 'Iron Duke'

A local train for Banbury leaves Bletchley Station
View northward, towards Rugby etc., also Bedford and Cambridge to the right; ex-London & North Western West Coast Main Line. The locomotive is one of the then new Ivatt Class 4MT 2-6-0s, No. 43001. The train is leaving from an Up Main platform rather than from the Cambridge line platform which is visible over on the right.

Bletchley Station
This station on the West Coast Main Line lost some of its status in the 1980s when Milton Keynes Central was opened a few miles to the north. Nevertheless, it retains healthy commuter traffic and is also the starting point for trains to Bedford. The entrance is unusual in that it is the 'wrong' side of the line for access to the town centre. The group of men waiting by the main door were QPR supporters who had arrived here to attend an FA cup 3rd round match against MK Dons.

A Stanier 'Duchess' stops at Bletchley for water
View southward, towards London (Euston) on the West Coast Main Line. This was an unscheduled stop, probably due to the locomotive's inability to take up water at the troughs in the icy - and foggy - weather, December 1956. The engine is No. 46234 'Duchess of Abercorn', one of five of Stanier's great 'Coronation' 4-6-2's built in 1938 without streamlining. The driver is controlling the water-column, his fireman being up on the tender.
