Stowe House, marble hall
The ceiling of the marble hall consists of over 150 panels, each one unique in size and shape to create the illusion uniformity in this magnificent oval room. The central light is 30 metres above floor level and the figures in the frieze that can be seen going all round the room are life-sized.

Stowe School
Photographed from across Octagon Lake in Stowe Landscape Gardens. The school is the former Stowe House and part of it is open to visitors at certain times. The gardens were laid out by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown and are Grade I listed. The gardens are owned by the National Trust.

A lion in front of the south side of Stowe School
One of a pair on either side of the steps leading to the main entrance. The school was opened in 1923 for boys but is now a co-educational independent boarding school.

Stowe House - South Facade
The house is the home of Stowe School and is owned by the Stowe House Preservation Trust who have spent more than £25m on restoration. The house is the result of four main periods of development dating back to 1677. The showpiece is the south facade overlooking the gardens, regarded as one of the finest examples of neoclassical architecture in Britain. The main front stretches over 460 feet (140m).
