Waste transfer station, Calvert Landfill Site
This is the waste transfer station for Calvert Landfill Site which currently occupies an area of 106 hectares to the west of the station, off camera to the left, and which is run by the Waste Recycling Group for the Department of the Environment. Waste container trains come from Bath, Bristol and London, see Image, and here the containers are loaded onto lorries waiting on the road alongside the trains. The lorries then take the waste to the landfill site to be tipped, see Image

Railway lines near Calvert
These railway lines are used by trains coming and going from the transfer station for Calvert Landfill Site which is just behind the camera, see Image Waste trains from Bath and Bristol come to Calvert along the former Oxford to Bletchley railway line which is just under 2km to the north, away from the camera. Trains from London use the railway line from the south along the route of the former Great Central Railway. The railway is only double-tracked in the vicinity of Calvert, and but for the landfill site none of these lines would have remained in use.
