Church Road, Tingrith
A view down the lovely road that leads to the church. Taken from the churchyard. Most of the houses along this lane are of the same style, and may well have been tied to a local estate at one time.

St. Nicholas, Tingrith
As can be seen the tower of Tingrith's St. Nicholas' church is undergoing restoration. Much of the interior was also covered in dust sheets. The church is at the end of a particularly attractive village lane.

View through St. Nicholas, Tingrith
Considerable restoration work is going on at this parish church. This view looks through the width of the church from South to North. There was newspaper in front of the door presumably to prevent the droppings that festooned the floor of the porch from being trodden into the main part of the church.

St Nicholas, Tingrith : Porch, South Aisle & Nave
The tower of this church is undergoing maintenance, while the clean contrasting mortar and stones on this part of the building suggest perhaps that this section has already had some work performed on it.

Stained Glass Window, St. Nicholas, Tingrith
Many historians and academics are rather sniffy about Victorian stained glass, and whilst I accept that it rarely achieves the beauty of mediæval examples, I think some of it is very high quality indeed. This window struck me as particularly attractive, and I think it was probably by William Jay Bolton (1816-84) as I have subsequently discovered that there are windows by this artist in this church. The Bolton brothers (John was the other one) emigrated to the USA where they effectively founded the stained glass industry there. Their first windows in the States were in New York completed in 1847 and are reckoned to be the oldest (indigenous) stained glass windows in the USA. http://www.nytimes.com/1983/05/09/nyregion/new-york-day-by-day-154785.html
