Many historians and academics are rather sniffy about Victorian stained glass, and whilst I accept that it rarely achieves the beauty of mediæval examples, I think some of it is very high quality indeed. This window struck me as particularly attractive, and I think it was probably by William Jay Bolton (1816-84) as I have subsequently discovered that there are windows by this artist in this church. The Bolton brothers (John was the other one) emigrated to the USA where they effectively founded the stained glass industry there. Their first windows in the States were in New York completed in 1847 and are reckoned to be the oldest (indigenous) stained glass windows in the USA. http://www.nytimes.com/1983/05/09/nyregion/new-york-day-by-day-154785.html
