East Malling station
The line from Otford to Maidstone East was opened on 1st June 1874 by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway. East Malling station was opened in May 1913. The station is at a high level, adjacent to the railway bridge over the High Street. It is possibly the least attractive station on the line. The ticket office at East Malling station was closed by 1988. It was located in a wooden building on the up (London-bound) platform, where part retained as a shelter continues in use. This view is from the down platform, looking in the direction of Maidstone East.

A shady arch
The arch of trees over the public footpath at this bend in its route will provide welcome shade in the summer and shelter in the winter, as well as beckoning the walker on to see what is round the bend.
