Lenham station - track layout
Lenham has a more complex track layout than most country stations. In this view looking west from the road bridge, there are a siding or goods loop bypassing the station on the left (south, or 'up') side, a trailing crossover just before the platforms, and a goods siding (probably disused) on the north / 'down' side beyond the station. View west, towards Maidstone and London: ex-SE&CR London - Maidstone East - Ashford secondary main line, electrified east of Maidstone in 1961. Recently an Up loop line had been added (off to the left in this view) for holding Up Continental freight trains after the Channel Tunnel was opened.

Lenham station
The line from Otford to Maidstone East was opened on 1st June 1874 by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway. On 1st July 1884 this was extended from Maidstone East to Ashford with intermediate stations opening at Bearsted, Hollingbourne, Harrietsham, Lenham and Charing on the same day. In many ways Lenham is the most interesting of the five stations between Maidstone East and Ashford International as a loop line (seen here on the right) runs beyond the up platform, and there are various other sidings seen from the platforms. The remains of one old siding can be seen next to the western part of the down platform and at one stage there was a bay platform there. A rail training centre is alongside the approach road and young trainees in their new hard hats and high visibility tops can be seen out and about around the station. Within the training centre are practice rail tracks. A new footbridge at Lenham replaced the life-expired concrete footbridge spanning the tracks here, and was completed in early 2010.

Daffodils at Lenham station
The line from Otford to Maidstone East was opened on 1st June 1874 by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway. On 1st July 1884 this was extended from Maidstone East to Ashford with intermediate stations opening at Bearsted, Hollingbourne, Harrietsham, Lenham and Charing on the same day. This is the view from the down platform looking towards Ashford International. After an unusually cold March, daffodils were very late flowering this year. In many ways Lenham is the most interesting of the five stations between Maidstone East and Ashford International as a loop line (seen here on the far side) runs beyond the up platform, and there are various other sidings seen from the platforms. The remains of one old siding can be seen next to the western part of the down platform and at one stage there was a bay platform there. A rail training centre is alongside the approach road and young trainees in their new hard hats and high visibility tops can be seen out and about around the station.
