Queenborough: parish church and churchyard
Photo taken on a drizzly July evening. The south side of the churchyard is a narrow strip of land, quite cramped. The church - built of ragstone (Kentish rag) - is medieval in origin but was extensively refurbished in the 17th century. The huge monument (with obelisk) marks the vault of the Young Greet family - whose members included an admiral or two.

Queenborough: The Greet Family Monument
This large stone monument in the graveyard of Holy Trinity Church was erected in memory of several members of the Greet family, but particularly of Thomas Young Greet, a former mayor of Queenborough who died in 1829. The Greet coat-of-arms is carried on the side and the whole is topped with an obelisk and finial ball. That the memorial survives is surprising given that a contemporary newspaper report records how his death sparked wild scenes of celebration amongst the local population. For example "In the public houses the general feeling was exhibited without restraint" is written. The paper then goes on to state that it was reported that in the week that he died "810 people in the borough were in the most wretched and desperate condition." Nonetheless the monument today merits Grade II Listing status.
